Artist, Kara Walker atop "The Captain", a central character in her allegorical sculpture "Fons Americanus" created for Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in 2019.  "Fons Americanus", inspired by the Victoria Memorial fountain at Buckingham Palace, inverts the usual function of a memorial and questions narratives of power, exploring the interconnected histories of Africa, America and Europe. "The Captain" is composite of important black historical figures who rebelled against European colonial forces including François-Dominique Toussaint L’Ouverture and Marcus Garvey.
